About the Fixed Ranking Matrix
This ranking matrix was built using pick & go's original algorithm. Using fixed ranking points, it attempts to
show the relative positions of the major rugby playing nations over a given time period (the default view is
for the past 3 years, but you can go back as far as 1960).
Each column contains a pair of numbers for each country. The first number is pick & go's own ranking point
total based on the previous 12 matches played by that team at the end of that yearly quarter.
By clicking on any of these totals, you can zoom in to display the actual details of those 12 matches.
A number of factors influence the ranking point values for each game e.g. home advantage, tier rating of
each side, world cup finals etc. See the FAQ's for more information.
The second number (in brackets) indicates that teams world ranking position at that time based on fixed
rankings. Note that a fixed ranking matrix is more volatile than a comparative relative one in that the totals
only take into account the previous 12 matches played and fixed win/loss points are assigned based on
tiers rather than the relative strength difference of both sides.
From 1987 onwards, world champions' tenures are highlighted in their team colours.
For a different time period, simply enter another year range in the selection panel below and click 'and Go!'.
